Tuesday's accident took place at SembCorp Marine's PPL Shipyard at Pandan Road.
At about 9.35am, a ringer crane was trying to lift a 185-tonne load when its boom collapsed. The 100-metre long crane boom is supposed to be able to lift loads of up to 300 tonnes.
The three killed were a Singaporean, an Indian national and a Chinese national, all of whom were subcontracted workers of SembCorp Marine. The Singaporean is 55-year-old Low Chwee Seng. A worker from China said he saw his compatriot try to run from the collapsing boom.
"He tried to escape running towards the sea but still got hit," the worker said.
Several oxy-acetylene cylinders, which are used in welding, also caught fire....
